Manipulating the graph: Export

We have created a visualization and we want to share or modify its content. We open the Workspace menu, then click on the Export button.

There are two types of export: Data and image.

Export visualization as data

You can export the visualization in the following formats:

  • Excel 2007+ workbook
  • CSV
  • GEXF - compatible with Gephi
  • GraphML
  • JSON

Export visualization as image

Before choosing the image format for the export, a number of settings can be used to customize the export to your needs and changing these settings will be reflected immediately in this window.

Please note that any node or edge selected and highlighted in your visualization will appear as such in the export.

Settings explanation:

  • Zoom: You can zoom in and move the visualization in order to export only what is visible on screen. You can preview the section that will be exported by observing the map on the bottom right.

  • Caption visibility: This setting will show or hide node and edge captions.
  • Collision removal: This setting will hide some of the captions to avoid caption text overlapping.
  • Text size: Allows text size to be increased or decreased for better readability.
  • Snapping: This setting helps you line up nodes with each other by displaying grid lines and snapping the node you are moving to the closest position. This can help with the visual clarity of the export.

  • Size: This allows you to set the export to a specific size for printing.

Comments and annotations

You can add comments to the export by selecting the text tool (T) on top of the export window and then placing your cursor where you want your comment to be within the graph in the export window. By selecting the downward arrow next to it, you can customize text size, color and background, before or after you add a comment.

You can add arrows to the export by selecting the annotation tool on top of the export window (➡) and then dragging your mouse to draw an arrow. By selecting the downward arrow next to it, you can customize the arrow head, thickness and color.

To move or resize a comment box, select the comment by clicking on the comment box outline and drag them to the desired position or drag the corners to adjust the comment box size. To move or resize an arrow, select the arrow by clicking on it and drag it. Arrows can also be attached to a comment box by dragging one end of the arrow to the edge of the comment box.

Comments and arrows can be deleted by selecting them and pressing the "delete" key on your keyboard.

Preview the image export

Once the export is customized to your needs, you can select "Preview" to preview your export.

In this window you can select if the visualization background should be enabled (visible) or disabled (transparent) in the export as well as choose the export format. The following formats are available:

  • SVG - compatible with Inkscape and Adobe Illustrator for editing
  • PNG
  • PDF
